Freddy Cole “He Was the King”

"He was the King", Music: Freddy Cole, Lyrics: Phil Morrison

So sad to hear about the passing of Freddy Cole who was a good friend and someone I worked with for a number of years. It is indeed fitting to see the warm tributes given to Freddy for being the great singer that he was as well as being a swinging pianist but his engaging friendliness was unforgettable. When he sang, he would tell a story with an intimate quality that you rarely hear with singers! I was so humbled when he asked me to put lyrics to a song that he wrote for his brother Nat called

“He Was The King”. Rest in peace Freddy you are also royalty!

“Speak to Me of You”

Harry Allen’s Saxophone complements Freddy‘s voice on this tune
